AARO added its name to a letter to Congress asking for support of the DeMint/Meeks legislation. The letter was released at a press conference in Washington on April 1st by the newly formed Alliance for a Competitive Tax Policy. The Alliance aims to 1) prevent any further inroads on the taxation of Americans abroad, and educate Congress about the economic and political importance of having Americans living and working abroad; 2) restore the damage caused by the recent changes in the law; and, 3) lay the groundwork to promote tax law changes which will remove the current tax disadvantages that Americans face working outside the US.
