AARO Annual General Meeting
The evening's guest speaker, Ms Kathleen Allegrone, Minister Counselor for Political Affairs, U.S. Embassy Paris, addressed the subject: American Foreign Policy: Change and Continuity. Musical entertainment by Sheldon Forrest, a New York City pianist who plays Jazz, Blues, Cabaret, Broadway, Pop, Rock, & Classical styles.

AARO Overseas Americans Week Presentation
Members of the AARO team who went to Washington for Overseas Americans Week reported on their meetings with congressional representatives and other events that took place during the week of March 30 - April 3, 2009.

IRS issues of importance to Americans in France, as well as recent changes in US tax law were on the agenda for March 4. Speakers included: Aziz Benbrahim, Chief of IRS France, John Fredenberger, French-based tax attorney, Norman Reuter, French-based tax attorney, John Campbell, Partner at Kohnen and Patton, and Stephanie Simonard, French-based tax attorney.

AAWE and AARO hosted an Inauguration day party on January 20, 2009 to watch live television coverage of the swearing in of the 44th President of the United States of America, while celebrating together our country and the future!

Can America afford to grow old? Board Member Tom Rose, author of the AARO primer on Social Security, delved into the serious implications for Social Security pensions and Medicare of the Baby Boomer generation, whose first members reach 65 this year.

The Election Results, the Obama Transition, and the 111th Congress
Patricia Woods, Director of the Woods Institute in Washington D.C., shared her thoughts on this timely subject. Patricia is the founder of the Woods Institute (www.woodsinstitute.com), an educational organization which focuses on the functioning of the US government. Among her clients are members of government departments who seek greater insight in dealing with Congress.

AARO Meetup
AARO members and non-members met for lunch and lively discussion of political issues affecting overseas Americans - from taxes to voting to citizenship to whatever else was on their mind.
