AARO relies on its network of volunteers for the success of our efforts. There are many ways to help out, whether you are located near our headquarters in Paris or anywhere in the world. Check out the following volunteer opportunities to find a match with your interests and skills.

Newsletter contributor

• Timing: Ongoing
• Location: Paris and worldwide
• Description: Writers in the Paris area to report on AARO events for our quarterly newsletter publication. Writers anywhere who want to share their Living Abroad experiences with our readers.
• Skills: Good writing skills, willingness to work to (fairly loose) deadlines.

Various website opportunities

• Timing: Ongoing
• Location: Anywhere
• Description: Forum moderators and discussion stimulators are needed for the following areas:
  • General Discussions
  • AARO issues
  • Country specific discussions
• Bloggers for cities, regions, countries on issues pertinent to Americans
• Writers to contribute to our Perspectives from Abroad section
• Issue trackers to search and provide links to online articles and legislative activity
• Skills: Net savvy, good judgement, blogging or Forum management experience desired (but not necessary), able to allocate the time necessary to be reliable and current for the Forum and issue tracking jobs.

Meetup Organizers

• Location: Anywhere outside the U.S.
• Description: Start a Meetup group to introduce AARO to the American community in your city. Organizing regular, informal events (usually monthly), you'll get a chance to meet new people and help build our membership base in a relaxed, friendly environment. • Skills: Outgoing, organized persons who are comfortable meeting new people. Knowledge of AARO's issues, history, and accomplishments. You must be a member of AARO to start an authorized AARO Meetup.

One of the best ways to make your voice heard as an American abroad is to write a letter to your representative on an issue that concerns you.

AARO is committed to providing the latest information on the key issues facing Americans abroad, including (taxation, voting, citizenship, Social Security, Medicare, representation, census), driver’s license, and the REAL ID Act.

In addition, AARO provides model letters to help you make your point effectively:

Here is a sample letter that you can use to write your Senators and Congresspersons in support of the Mexican Demonstration project for Medicare.
