Association of Americans Resident Overseas

Founded in 1973, AARO's purpose is to secure, protect, and improve basic American rights for U.S. citizens overseas. The Prague chapter was started in 1992 soon after the Velvet Revolution and the end of communism. We are a not-for-profit, non-partisan, public service group with members active in industry, government service, education, law, the arts as well as retired persons.

Global Agenda:

  • safeguarding U.S. citizen rights of Americans overseas
  • obtaining fair and reasonable U.S. tax treatment
  • assuring/encouraging the right to vote in federal elections
  • obtaining Medicare coverage for eligible citizens overseas
  • support for bilateral Social Security agreements
  • lobbying Congress as a united overseas citizen voice

Agenda in the Czech Republic:

  • immediate security notification for critical issues
  • united voice to U.S. embassy to help solve common problems
  • email network to quickly address questions and opportunities
  • affordable group health insurance
  • local newsletter for information on U.S. citizen issues
  • special seminars to address timely U.S./Czech topics
  • voter registration rallies to promote the right to vote
  • receptions and events to network with other Americans
  • english lending library in cooperation with SPUSA
  • movie premieres to relax with entertainment
