AAWE and AARO host a wide-ranging discussion with consular staff from the Paris Embassy

On March 18, 2021 AAWE (Association of American Women in Europe) and AARO  jointly hosted a video conference with officials from the consular section of the U.S. Embassy in Paris. Also invited were members of the American Club of Paris, American Women’s Club (AWG) and the American Catholic Women’s Organization.

We have made both a video recording and a written report available so you can review the topics that were discussed.

The consular staff covered a wide range of topics including:

  • current travel issues between France and the U.S.
  • restrictions on travel to the U.S. by Americans and family members
  • establishing U.S. citizenship for children and grandchildren
  • documentation needed to prove 5 years residency in the U.S. for citizenship
  • passport renewals
  • reporting births to establish U.S. citizenship

U.S. Embassy participants included:

  • Bryan Aggeler, Chargé d’Affaires, U.S. Embassy, France
  • Robert F. Hannan, Consul General, U.S. Embassy, France
  • Jay Epping, American Citizen Services Chief
  • Eugene Garmize, Passport Chief

While some of the discussion focused on France, there is considerable information on citizenship, traveling to the U.S., passports and naturalization that will be useful for Americans around the world.

Do note that all material discussed was current as of March 18, 2021. Circumstances may well have changed, so make sure you search out the most current information.
