Americans Helping Americans Abroad

District 12, Danny O'Connor

Question 1: Taxation

Would you commit to working with Americans residing abroad to reform the current citizenship-based US tax system?

Yes. The system is confusing and the United States should do everything possible to help US citizens living and working abroad in a fair manner. I understand that closing the IRS offices abroad has created a serious burden. I will work with you to alleviate hardships and make sure that the US does not put itself in a competitive disadvantage by not having a fair tax system for all of its citizens.

Question 2: Services

Will you support on-line access to government agencies and adequate funding for consular functions upon which Americans abroad rely?

Yes, there should be full online access to US citizens living overseas. Many embassies or consulates are a burden for individuals to physically travel to.

Question 3: Banking

Would you support an enforceable right for all US citizens to a US bank account so they can retain their US savings and retirement accounts and make and receive payments in the United States?

Yes, there should be access to US accounts for US citizens living overseas, so they can have access to their retirement funds and savings accounts and not get penalized for living overseas. The US should do everything possible to make sure that we protect a global economy and citizens who work and live abroad are not unduly penalized.
